- Email and WhatsApp. A 6MB BMP often becomes a JPG of a few hundred KB.
- Form uploads. Most online forms accept JPG but not BMP.
Limits and privacy
- Up to 50 images at once, 50MB each. BMP.
- JPG is lossy. For screenshots or diagrams with sharp text, BMP to PNG keeps them exact.

Frequently asked questions
What is a BMP file?
BMP (bitmap) is an old Windows image format that stores every pixel with little or no compression. It is still produced by some scanners, older software and MS Paint. Because it is not compressed, a BMP is much larger than the same picture saved as JPG or PNG.
Why are BMP files so large?
A BMP usually stores three or four bytes for every pixel, with no compression. A 12-megapixel image is therefore around 36MB as BMP, while the same image as a JPG is often 2MB to 4MB. Converting to JPG keeps the picture and removes most of that wasted space.
Will converting to JPG lose quality?
JPG compression drops some fine detail, but at 85% quality photos and scans look the same at normal size. If the image has small text or sharp lines, such as a screenshot or diagram, use BMP to PNG instead, which is lossless.
Can I convert many BMP files?
Yes. Add up to 50 BMP files at a time, up to 50MB each, and download all the JPGs as a ZIP.
