GIF Compressor
This GIF compressor makes animated GIFs smaller while keeping the animation, by storing only the parts that change between frames, reducing colours, resizing and dropping frames, with one-click targets for Discord and Slack.
Your file is processed in your browser and never sent to a server.
How to use GIF Compressor
Choose up to 10 GIFs (up to 50MB each).
Pick a target such as "Discord emoji (under 256 KB)", or choose the size, quality and frames yourself.
Click "Compress", compare the before and after sizes, then download each GIF or all of them as a ZIP.
When to use GIF Compressor
- Discord and Slack. Fit emoji, stickers and uploads under the size limits.
- Websites and emails. Faster-loading animated banners and demos.
- Chat apps. Smaller GIFs send faster on mobile data.
How the compression works
Most of a GIF usually stays the same from one frame to the next. The compressor stores the first frame in full, then for each later frame only the rectangle that changed, with unchanged pixels left transparent. Identical frames are merged. On top of that, you can reduce colours, resize and keep fewer frames; dropped frames add their time to the frames kept, so the animation runs at the same speed.
Limits and privacy
- Up to 10 GIFs at once, 50MB each. Very long, large GIFs may be too big for a browser tab to process.
- If a GIF is already well optimised and your settings would make it larger, the original is kept.
- Your file is processed in your browser and never sent to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Will my GIF keep its animation?
Yes. Every GIF is decoded frame by frame and rebuilt as an animated GIF with the same timing. Only the frames you choose to drop are removed, and their display time is added to the remaining frames so the speed does not change.
How do I make a GIF smaller for WhatsApp or Discord?
Choose a target from the list, for example "Discord emoji (under 256 KB)" or "Discord upload (under 10 MB)", and click Compress. The tool tries smaller sizes, fewer colours and fewer frames until the GIF fits. WhatsApp converts GIFs to short videos itself, so smaller GIFs simply send faster.
Is my GIF sent to a server?
No. Compression runs completely in your browser. Your GIFs never leave your device, and nothing is stored.
