CSV to Excel Converter
Convert CSV to Excel (XLSX) in your browser without breaking your data: leading zeros in phone numbers and PIN codes are kept, Tamil and Hindi text stays readable, and the separator is detected for you.
Your files are processed on your device and never sent to a server.
How to use CSV to Excel
Click "Choose a file" and pick your .csv (or .tsv / .txt) file.
Check the preview. If columns look wrong, change the separator; if letters look garbled, change the text encoding. Keep "Keep leading zeros" ticked for phone numbers and IDs.
Click "Convert to Excel (.xlsx)". The file downloads with a bold, frozen header row and sized columns.
When to use CSV to Excel
- Bank statements. Many banks export CSV with semicolons or odd encodings; open them cleanly in Excel.
- Contact and customer lists. Keep the leading 0 in phone numbers and 6-digit PIN codes like 600001.
- Exports from apps and portals. GST, e-commerce and accounting software exports become proper spreadsheets.
- Tamil and Hindi data. Text stays correct because the XLSX stores it as Unicode.
Limits and privacy
- One file at a time, up to 50MB. Very large files (hundreds of thousands of rows) work best on a laptop.
- Numbers become real numbers in Excel, except values with a leading zero and numbers longer than 15 digits (such as account or Aadhaar numbers), which stay as text so they are not damaged.
- Files are read in your browser and never sent to a server. Nothing is stored after you close the page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open a CSV in Excel without breaking it?
Double-clicking a CSV lets Excel guess the format, which often splits columns wrongly, drops leading zeros and garbles non-English text. Converting it here first gives Excel an XLSX file where every column, number and letter is already set correctly, so it opens exactly as intended.
Why do my phone numbers lose the leading zero?
Excel treats 09876543210 as a number and removes the 0. With "Keep leading zeros" ticked, values that start with 0, such as phone numbers, PIN codes and employee IDs, are saved as text, so the zero stays. Very long numbers are also kept as text so Excel does not round them.
Why does Tamil text show as symbols?
The CSV was saved in UTF-8 but opened as an older encoding, or the other way round. This tool detects UTF-8 automatically and lets you switch encoding if the preview looks wrong. The XLSX it creates stores text in Unicode, so Tamil, Hindi and other scripts display correctly in Excel.
Is my file sent to a server?
No. The CSV is read and the Excel file is built in your browser. Customer lists, bank exports and other data never leave your device.
