Add Page Numbers to PDF
Add page numbers to PDF documents in your browser: choose the position and style (1, Page 1, Page 1 of N, Roman numerals), skip the cover page, and number only the pages you choose.
Your files are processed on your device and never sent to a server.
How to use Add Page Numbers
Click "Choose a PDF".
Pick a position (for example Bottom centre) and a style such as "Page 1 of 10". Set the starting number, tick "Skip the first page" for a cover, and optionally type the pages to number.
Click "Add page numbers" and download the PDF.
When to use Add Page Numbers
- Project reports and theses. Number pages from the first chapter and skip the cover.
- Legal and office documents. Use "Page 1 of 10" so readers can tell nothing is missing.
- Merged PDFs. After merging several files, number the whole document in one go.
Limits and privacy
- Numbers use a standard PDF font (Helvetica). Roman numerals and "of N" totals are calculated for you.
- One PDF at a time, up to 200MB.
- PDFs are processed in your browser with pdf-lib and pdf.js, which are served from this site. Your file is not sent to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add page numbers to a PDF?
Choose your PDF, pick where the number should go and which style you want, then click "Add page numbers". The numbers are drawn onto each page in the corner or centre you chose, and you download a new numbered copy.
How do I skip the cover page?
Tick "Skip the first page (cover)". The cover gets no number and numbering starts on page 2. If you want page 2 to show as 1, keep "Start at" set to 1. You can also type a page range, such as 3-40, to number only part of the document.
Can I use Page 1 of N format?
Yes. Choose "Page 1 of 10" or "1 / 10". The total is the number of pages being numbered, so if you skip the cover, a 10-page PDF shows "Page 1 of 9" onwards. The example line under the settings shows exactly what will be printed.
Is my file sent to a server?
No. The numbers are added in your browser, and the PDF stays on your device.
