Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip in India?
Tipping is optional in India. At sit-down restaurants 5% to 10% of the bill is common if you liked the service, and nothing extra is expected if the bill already has a service charge. Delivery and cab drivers appreciate a small tip but it is up to you.
How do I split a bill with friends?
Enter the total bill, add a tip if you are leaving one, and set the number of people to see the equal share. If someone ate more or less, tick "Split unevenly" and give them 2 shares or 0.5 shares; the total is then divided in proportion.
Is service charge the same as a tip?
No. A service charge is added by the restaurant, while a tip is your choice. Under Indian consumer guidelines, restaurants cannot make a service charge compulsory or add it automatically; you can ask for it to be removed. If you pay a service charge, you do not need to tip as well.
