PDF to Word Converter (Text Extraction)
Convert PDF to Word (DOCX) in your browser for text-based PDFs: headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text and images are kept, so you can edit the document in Word or Google Docs.
Your files are processed on your device and never sent to a server.
How to use PDF to Word
Click "Choose a PDF". It should be a text PDF (one where you can select text), not a scan.
Optional: type the pages to convert and choose whether to include images.
Click "Convert to Word" and download the .docx file.
When to use PDF to Word
- Editing a document you only have as PDF. Update an old resume, letter or form that was saved as PDF.
- Reusing text. Pull paragraphs out of reports or notes into a new document.
- Translating. Get the text into Word to translate it or run a spell check.
What is kept and what is not
- Kept: the text in reading order, paragraphs, headings (detected from font size), bold and italic text, and images placed near where they appear.
- Not kept: exact positions, columns, tables (they become lines of text), headers and footers as separate sections, and form fields.
- Scanned PDFs: there is no text to extract. They need OCR (text recognition), which BA Convert does not offer yet.
- Tamil, Hindi and other scripts: text extracts correctly only if the PDF stores proper Unicode text. Some older Indian-language PDFs use custom fonts and come out as wrong characters.
Limits and privacy
- One PDF at a time, up to 100MB.
- PDFs are processed in your browser with pdf-lib and pdf.js, which are served from this site. Your file is not sent to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
Frequently asked questions
Will my PDF formatting be kept?
Partly. The converter keeps paragraphs, headings, bold and italic text and images, which covers most letters, reports and articles. It does not recreate exact layouts, columns or tables, which come out as plain lines of text. For layout-heavy PDFs, check the result and tidy it in Word.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Not yet. A scanned PDF is a set of photos of pages, with no text inside, so there is nothing to extract; it needs OCR (text recognition). The tool detects scans and tells you. Meanwhile, Google Drive can OCR a PDF if you open it with Google Docs.
Why is my Word file empty?
Usually because the PDF is scanned: the pages are images, so there is no text layer to copy. Try selecting text in the PDF in your viewer; if you cannot, it is a scan. A file can also come out empty or garbled if it uses unusual embedded fonts without Unicode mapping.
Is my PDF sent to a server?
No. The PDF is read and the Word file is built in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for private documents.
How do I edit a PDF without Word?
Convert it here and open the .docx in Google Docs (free) or WPS Office on your phone, edit it, then save it as PDF again, or use Word to PDF on BA Convert. For small changes such as adding text or a signature, a PDF editor app may be quicker.
