How to resize your UPSC photo and signature
Choose what you are preparing (for example "Photo"). The size and KB limits are already set for UPSC; change them if your notification differs.
Click "Choose your photo" (or "Choose your signature") and pick a clear photo or scan. Move the box so it frames your face or your signature.
Click "Make photo", check the green tick for the KB range, then download the file and upload it on the UPSC portal.
When to use the UPSC resizer
- UPSC Civil Services (Prelims) application. Prepare the photo and the three-time signature before you start the form.
- Detailed Application Form (DAF). Reuse the same clean photo and signature for later stages.
- Other UPSC exams. CDS, NDA, CAPF, ESE and others use similar photo and signature rules.
Before you upload: check the UPSC notification
These are the sizes the tool is preset to for Union Public Service Commission (Civil Services and other exams). They come from recent notifications as reported by several sources, which do not always agree. Always confirm them in the official notification on upsconline.nic.in before you upload, and change the numbers in the tool if yours are different.
- Photo: JPG, 20 to 200 KB, plain white background.
- Signature (signed 3 times): JPG, 20 to 100 KB, three signatures one below the other.
- Recent notices ask for a colour photo on a plain white background with the face covering about three quarters of the frame, plus a live photo captured in the form.
- The signature is signed three times, one below the other, on white paper in black ink, and uploaded as one image.
Preparing the three-line signature
- Sign three times, one below the other, on plain white paper with a black pen.
- Keep the signatures the same as you will sign in the exam hall and at the interview.
- Photograph the page in daylight, choose "Signature (signed 3 times)" above and frame all three lines.
Limits and privacy
- One image at a time, 25MB each. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF.
- Output is always JPG (JPEG), the format exam portals accept.
- Each upload type keeps its own photo and settings, so you can prepare all of them on one page and download them one by one.
- Your photo and signature are processed in your browser and never sent to BA Convert.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UPSC photo size in KB?
Recent UPSC notifications ask for a colour JPG photo between 20 KB and about 200 KB on a plain white background, with your face covering roughly three quarters of the frame. Some guides quote 300 KB as the upper limit, so check the current notice. The preset here makes a 413 x 531 pixel photo inside 20 to 200 KB.
What is the UPSC signature size?
UPSC asks you to sign three times, one below the other, on white paper in black ink, and upload it as one JPG image, commonly 20 to 100 KB. The signature preset here frames all three lines and keeps the file within that range. Change the limits if your notification states something else.
Why was my UPSC photo rejected?
Typical reasons are a background that is not plain white, a face that is too small in the frame, shadows, a blurred or old photo, or a file outside the allowed KB range. Use "Turn a plain background white" for a light wall, fit your face in the oval guide, and check the green tick before downloading.
Can I do this on my phone?
Yes. Everything runs in your phone browser. Take a well-lit photo against a plain light wall, choose it here, frame it, tap "Make photo" and download. Do the same for the signature page. Nothing leaves your device until you upload it yourself on upsconline.
