When to use Barcode Generator
- Retail products. EAN-13 barcodes for packaging, using numbers issued by GS1 India.
- Inventory and assets. Code 128 labels for shelves, files, equipment and stock.
- Shipping and orders. Code 128 for order numbers and tracking IDs.
- Exporting to the US. UPC-A for products sold in the USA and Canada.
EAN numbers for products sold in shops
A barcode image is easy to make, but the number inside an EAN-13 must be unique to your product. Supermarkets, Amazon and Flipkart check this. In India, official EAN numbers are issued by GS1 India (gs1india.org) for a yearly fee. Use your own made-up numbers only for internal stock, never on products sold in stores.
Limits and privacy
- Check digits for EAN and UPC are calculated automatically; if you type a full number with a wrong check digit, you are told the correct one.
- Label sheets fit the common A4 65-label layout (38.1 x 21.2 mm). Print at 100% scale.
- Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or stored.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a barcode for my product?
You can make the barcode image here for free. For products sold through shops or marketplaces, the number itself must be an official EAN from GS1 India so that it is unique worldwide. Enter that number, download the barcode as SVG or PDF and give it to your packaging printer.
Do I need to register EAN numbers?
For retail products, yes. GS1 India assigns your company a prefix and you number your products from it. Retailers and online marketplaces reject or flag duplicate or made-up EANs. For internal use, such as stock rooms, asset tags or a small shop's own billing, any number or Code 128 text is fine.
Which barcode type should I use?
Use EAN-13 for retail products in India and most countries, UPC-A for products sold in the US and Canada, and EAN-8 only for very small packs where GS1 has allocated one. Use Code 128 for anything internal: it holds letters and numbers, such as invoice numbers, SKUs and courier references.
Can I make many barcodes at once?
Yes. Paste one number or code per line in the bulk box and click "Make label sheet (PDF)". You get a print-ready A4 PDF with 65 labels per page, each barcode with its number underneath. Invalid lines are reported so you can fix them.
