Reverse GST Calculator

Reverse GST calculator: type a price that already includes GST and see the price before GST and the tax inside it, with the CGST and SGST or IGST split and the formula.

GST rate

Most goods and services are now 5% or 18%. 12% and 28% were removed for most items on 22 September 2025; use "Other" for an older invoice.

Taxable value (before GST)
₹847.46
CGST @ 9%
₹76.27
SGST / UTGST @ 9%
₹76.27
Total GST
₹152.54
Total amount
₹1,000.00

Base = 1000 × 100 ÷ (100 + 18) = 847.46

How to use Reverse GST Calculator

  1. Type the amount that includes GST (it opens in "Remove GST" mode).

  2. Pick the GST rate and whether it was an intra-state or inter-state sale.

  3. Read the price before GST and the tax, and copy the breakdown if you need it.

When to use Reverse GST Calculator

  • Checking an MRP. See how much of a shop price is tax.
  • Making invoices from a final price. When a customer agrees an all-inclusive price, find the taxable value to bill.
  • Expense claims. Separate the GST you may be able to claim as input tax credit.

Reverse GST formula

  • Price before GST = amount × 100 ÷ (100 + rate)
  • GST = amount − price before GST
  • Example at 18%: ₹5,900 × 100 ÷ 118 = ₹5,000, so GST is ₹900 (₹450 CGST + ₹450 SGST).
  • A common mistake is to take 18% of the inclusive amount (₹1,062 here), which overstates the tax.

Limits and privacy

  • Results are estimates for information only, not financial or tax advice. Confirm with your bank, lender or tax adviser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove GST from a price?

Divide the GST-inclusive price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). For an 18% item costing ₹5,900, divide by 1.18 to get ₹5,000 before GST; the GST is the remaining ₹900. The calculator does this for any rate and also splits the GST into CGST and SGST or shows it as IGST.

What is the formula for reverse GST?

Base price = inclusive amount × 100 ÷ (100 + GST rate), and GST = inclusive amount − base price. Do not simply subtract the rate as a percentage of the total; that gives a GST figure that is too large, because the GST was calculated on the base price, not the total.

How is the GST split into CGST and SGST?

For a sale within the same state, the GST is split equally: half is CGST and half is SGST (or UTGST in a union territory), so 18% becomes 9% + 9%. For a sale to another state, the whole amount is IGST. Choose the type of sale and the calculator shows the right split.
