How to Convert iPhone HEIC Photos to JPG on Windows

By Betsan · Updated 15 October 2026 · 3 min read

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. Windows often shows them as an unknown file type, and many upload forms reject them. The quickest fix is to convert HEIC to JPG, which takes seconds and does not need any software.

Open HEIC to JPG →Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG or PNG. Free, files stay on your device.

Convert HEIC to JPG in your browser

  1. Copy the photos from your iPhone to the PC (by cable, iCloud, Google Photos or email).
  2. Open HEIC to JPG in Chrome or Edge on the PC.
  3. Choose or drop the .heic files, up to 30 at a time.
  4. Click "Convert" and download the JPGs, or all of them as a ZIP. They open in the Windows Photos app and in every website.

Stop your iPhone saving HEIC

On the iPhone, open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose "Most Compatible". New photos will be saved as JPG. Existing photos stay HEIC. "Most Compatible" photos use about twice the storage.

When you share by AirDrop or attach photos in Mail, iOS often converts to JPG automatically. Copying the DCIM folder by cable keeps them as HEIC.

What about Windows extensions?

Windows can open HEIC after installing the "HEIF Image Extensions" and "HEVC Video Extensions" from the Microsoft Store. The HEVC extension is usually paid, and websites and upload forms still will not accept HEIC, so converting to JPG is the more practical answer.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting lose quality?

At the default high quality setting the difference is not visible. The JPG will be larger than the HEIC, because HEIC is a more efficient format.

Are my photos sent to a server?

No. The HEIC files are decoded in your browser on your PC. Nothing is sent to a server, which matters for personal photos.
