How to Remove the Password From a Bank Statement PDF

By Betsan · Updated 15 October 2026 · 3 min read

Banks email statements as password-protected PDFs. That is good for security, but loan and visa portals often reject protected files, and typing the password every time is tiresome. If you know the password, you can save an unlocked copy in a minute.

Open Unlock PDF →Remove a PDF password you know. Free, files stay on your device.

Find the password format

The email from your bank or the bank's website explains the format. Common patterns are the first four letters of your name in capitals plus your date or year of birth, or part of your customer ID or mobile number. For e-Aadhaar, UIDAI has used the first four letters of your name in capitals followed by your year of birth.

Remove the password

  1. Open Unlock PDF and choose the statement.
  2. Type the password once and click "Unlock PDF".
  3. Download the unlocked copy. It opens without a password, and the original stays protected.
  4. If the portal needs one file, use Merge PDF to combine several months; if it is too large, use Compress PDF.

Keep the unlocked copy safe

Anyone who gets the unlocked file can read it. Delete it after uploading, or store it in a protected folder. If you need to send it by email, you can add your own password with Protect PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Can I unlock a statement if I forgot the password?

No. Unlock PDF only removes a password you know; it does not guess or crack passwords. Check the bank's email for the format, or download a fresh copy from net banking.

Is the statement sent to a server?

No. The PDF is decrypted in your browser on your own device. Your statement and password are never sent anywhere.
